Our favorite empire-waist V-neck kaftan dress, with a black jersey bodice and a dramatic collage skirt of Kalamkari block prints in indigo, green, gold and rust-red natural dyes. Embroidery detail encircles the waist and accents the contrast cuffs. Generously sized -- one size fits most.

Kalamkari:

The word Kalamkari is derived from a Persian word where 'kalam' means pen and 'kari' refers to craftsmanship. Initially Kalamkari fabrics were hand painted but today wooden carved blocks are used. Kalamkari textiles were a prized trading commodity throughout Asia and Europe for hundreds of years. This traditional art has survived among dedicated artisans in southern India who follow the age–old techniques and natural dye recipes of this painstaking process. The process can involve 23 steps each requiring precision and an eye for detailing.

This oversized dress is remarkably cool and the fabric feels nice to the touch. It's made with a more expensive type of cotton. You can also tell there is pride in the workmanship as well. Washed and hung up to dry twice with no issues - low maintenance. My favorite lounge wear by far. Love this dress!
