Dancing with Joy: Artisan Day 2024
Each spring, the twelve women‐run cooperatives celebrate Artisan Day. The artisans gather, dressed in colorful sarees and adorned with flowers in their hair. For the March 2024 event, each cooperative choreographed and performed a dance in front of the other artisans.
Some women had never performed on a stage or even danced before. The joy in their eyes during the performance and the applause from the audience showed that these artisan cooperatives have become much more than workplaces. They are sources of friendship and support‐safe places where women can be themselves and celebrate their shared accomplishments.
