Insurance Against Health Crises

Among the less affluent in India, health insurance is only a recent phenomenon, and many still question its value. Five years ago, Marketplace began offering artisans health insurance, paying 75 percent of the premium, with the Co–operative paying 15 percent and the artisans the remaining 10 percent. After many meetings and discussions about the benefits, today the women value health insurance for both the financial and psychological security it provides.

Kunti Morya, who has worked as an embroidery artisan at Arpan Co–operative for thirty years, had never heard of health insurance until it was discussed at her Co–operative in 2016. Since she signed up, she has benefitted from the policy on three occasions. "I am grateful that MarketPlace thought in advance of us needing medical help, because I don't know how I would have managed," she says. "There are so many issues in life that make it hard to save money. Insurance allows us to not use our savings for health, so this insurance is my true savings."

Beautiful dress but flawed

I am leaving four stars because the fabric bleeds even after treatment with 1/2 cup of white vinegar (per instructions). I have ordered from Marketplace for 25+ years and until recently, say in the last year or so there has never been a bleed issue. I have washed clothes without sorting because I've never needed to. Now it's become a hassle. Is it too much to ask to fix the dye before sewing the fabric? I am pleased with Marketplace's business model and really want to support the company and the cooperatives but this issue is making me think twice about future purchases.
MarketPlace's Response: We're sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with your recent purchase from MarketPlace. Fixing the dyes is part of the process of our fabric treatment. However, sometimes the excess dye continues to bleed for a few washes. This is particularly true of deep colors like the purple of this dress. We recommend washing our garments separately and adding salt and vinegar to the first wash.

I love the deep purple color and the loose comfortable fit. The blue embroidery on the shoulder gives an additional interest. I wear this dress with black leggings and black flats.

Lovely and comfortable

I am enjoying this newer design and cut. It allows for a better fit through the torso and shoulder, but with ample room for my lower half. The fabric is soft and drapes nicely. Please remember that many woman need petite sizes, particularly as we age. I have often been complimented by strangers, sometimes twice in one day. People ask me about the garments and I am happy to send them to your website.
