Artisan Spotlight: Madhuri Manoj Gupta
Position: A tailor with the Nischay Group, Madhuri moved to Mumbai from Uttar Pradesh in 2012 after marrying in 2009.
Personal life: Now 32 with two children, ages 11 and 7, Madhuri lives with her in‐laws. Determined to become financially independent, she began taking small sewing orders from home. When she learned about Nischay Cooperative, which offered nearby work and flexible rules, she joined, despite her family's disapproval. She quickly learned to use an electric sewing machine.
MarketPlace's impact: “MarketPlace and Nischay have given me the opportunity to work outside the home, become financially independent, and meet new people,” she says. “Sessions on self‐care, parenting, and yoga inspire me, and I also enjoy our environmental initiatives of saving and recycling plastic, which I teach my kids. The yearly celebrations―Women's Day, Environment Day, and Artisan Days―along with Armaan Club activities for my children, bring joy to our lives.”
