Our V-neck extended-shoulder vest in quilted chindi patchwork with a solid black back and embroidered front pockets. The reverse side is a gold and green block print on cotton. Chindi patchwork colors and patterns may vary due to the variety of upcycled fabrics. Generously cut - consider sizing down for a less oversized look

The Art of Chindi: Reshaping Fashion Through Textile Recycling

The fabric scraps which are left over from cutting and finishing garments are called Chindi in India. These bits and pieces of our beautiful hand‐dyed fabrics are too good to waste, so we have created a number of ways to use them. It's good for the environment too.

You will find them throughout our collection as accents, pannels, borders – whatever we can come up with to add a unique touch to our garments. The process by which this chaotic jumble of colors and patterns is tamed requires both creativity and careful organization.

First the pieces are sorted into light and dark prints, color families and general size. To make the patchworks more consistent, they are then over‐dyed. This way the appearance is more harmonious, and it allows all the pieces in a line to be similar. Our Chindi creations reduce waste, enhance artisans' sewing skills, and showcase unique innovative design techniques.

beautiful & practical vest

I preordered because this is a beautifully made vest & I'm a quilter & if I made this vest myself it would cost me about double the amount for materials alone. Of course I won't have all the fun of constructing it and adding details--but hey--why not let nice young ladies have a chance to enjoy making beautiful clothes for others? I'm usually about a 12 or would take a L in western wear--but the SM/Ex Small is plenty roomy and fits just right. I called and asked because I didn't want to have to exchange sizes on a preorder garnet because we have such a short winter in N Florida. Love the buttons--love the pockets--my iPhone fits perfect. If I walk the dog in it --have plenty of room in the pockets for a 15pro iPhone and a large dog bag. this is my first order from Marketplace and I've enjoyed reading all the stories about the seamstresses and how much they enjoy being in the co-ops and having companionship with other ladies that enjoy making and marketing beautiful clothing. :). wish you had a place to upload a photo so you could see where I'm wearing it :) thanks for such a lovely and fun vest :)

I am guessing that when you have this vest, you will have a unique one of a kind item. Mine does not look like the picture, same style, different fabrics. I ordered a M/L and it is large. I am 5"2, 135 lbs. With the fabrics that make the vest, I plan on wearing black, navy and grey pants resulting in a different look every time. Our winters are cool and this vest will be warm and welcome on cold days.
